It is with great regret that I record the passing of Arthur C. Clark yesterday . He was a first rank scientist and laid the foundations of the theory of satellite communications , now so commonly accepted .A writer of great science fiction stories , including the 2001 and Rama series , he was one of that rare breed of writers in who's stories that one had difficulty in knowing when science fact became science fiction . He provided me with hours of high quality reading pleasure , enabling me to zoom to the furthest reaches of the Galaxy and engage in act of interstellar "daring do" .
